Classification of color properties

Any color can be composed of the three primary colors - red, green and blue. Among the three primary colors, only red is a warm color, so to judge the warmth or coolness of the color of a work, you can determine it based on the amount of red. Hue is mainly composed of lightness and chroma, and is used to express the state of color.

■ Warm colors

Warm colors include red-purple, red, red-orange, orange, and yellow-orange. These colors give people a strong sense of impact, have the effect of expanding and approaching vision, and give people a warm feeling.

■ Cool colors

The relationship between cold and warm is obtained through comparison. Hues with weaker brightness and saturation, such as cyan, cyan-green, blue, blue-purple and other colors centered on cyan and their close colors, will give people the impression of contraction, alienation and coldness. Cool colors remind people of blue sky, green water and other scenes, creating a deep and serious feeling.

■ Neutral tones

Readers may find that purple, yellow, green and other colors do not appear in warm and cool tones. This is because these colors are neither cool nor warm. They are called neutral colors because the proportion of cool and warm they contain is uncertain.
