Web Design Summary

<br />From the birth of my first personal page in 1998 to today in 2008, it has been ten years since I started working in the design industry.
In the past ten years, a lot has changed. From fiddling with my own personal website to making a living as a designer, I have successfully upgraded from a young boy to a dad. From seeing my friends changing careers one by one to the fact that I am still struggling in this industry ten years later, I have to sigh at the vicissitudes of life^_^
After 10 years, you should make a summary for yourself and record your past experiences so that you can go further and better in the next decade.
The first time I went online was at the Jiaxun Internet Cafe between HUST and the North Campus of Normal University. Later I moved to Guoxun on the famous Fallen Street. At that time, Guoxun had all Compaq brand computers. The Internet cafe had a 128K 169 dedicated line. Most people around me were playing in the mud and in chat rooms. There was no QQ or forum at that time. The boss, Liang, wearing round glasses, was typing commands on the Linux proxy server in the Internet cafe. I heard about Linux when I first started surfing the Internet. It has great functions and powerful features, but its interface is very dark and mysterious.
At that time, there were already many good personal websites. Because the Internet fee was too expensive and my wallet was not very strong, I usually made them in the dormitory, copied them on a 3.5-inch disk and took them to the Internet cafe to upload them. The first one was Hot Dog, and then I found Frontpage. I immediately felt that Hot Dog was very bad and amateurish.
In 1998, I didn’t even have a computer, but I dared to teach Photoshop/CorelDraw courses in a computer training school with my superb memory and eloquence. I was really bold... Anyway, I don’t dare to do that now. It’s a sin to mislead students...
Because I majored in fine arts, and had some basic computer skills from DOS 6, and Microsoft provided such a good Frontpage, I quickly got the hang of it. In fact, I didn't understand how to design a web page at all.
It was not until 1999 when Hunan Tianchen Company recruited web designers that I changed from a casual vagrant to a half-baked regular soldier. Thanks to Mr. Zheng (now the director of 5460) for providing me with a part-time job opportunity. In Tianchen, with the good network environment, I created the Seven-Colored Bird. In the same year, I participated in the mascot design of 163.net and got a 32MB MP3. The size is a bit large, about the same as a Baisha cigarette box, a bit exaggerated.
In 2000, I bought my first computer. I ended the history of borrowing computers from classmates. I signed up for a monthly subscription of 169 yuan and started a more crazy online activity. Of course, working part-time in a company outside has become a part of my life. In the same year, I participated in the logo design of a company, and the company awarded me a 25-inch TV. My classmates and I spent half a day to move it back to the dormitory. I have been using it until now. BTW: This TV made my roommate become a well-known personal webmaster in the field of satellite TV :) Money can buy some things, but it may not buy meaning. I think this TV is very meaningful.
After that, I wandered around as a web designer, working in many companies in Beijing, Shanghai, and Changsha. I also made some works that I was quite proud of at the time. Most of them didn't even leave a trace. The Internet is like this. It is very cruel and helpless for designers.
After that, I stayed in school as a professional teacher for two years, worked in a photography company for a while, and also worked in an advertising company for a while. My identity had changed from a designer to a director. So I began to feel that it was meaningless. After May Day in 2006, I was ready to start my own business. I called it SOHO. I thought it was a very pleasant and comfortable thing to open a studio. I could sleep whenever I wanted, work all night long, and not have to worry about clocking in at work the next day. Facts have proved that it was completely wrong. Being a teacher or an employee is actually good. Impulse is the devil. Don't start your own business on a whim.
In 2006, my daughter was born and I was promoted gloriously. Intensive design work began in 2006. Due to professional strength and friends' introductions, the studio has accumulated some clients, most of which are leading companies in the local industry. We have done some good works, some plagiarized, and some embarrassing works. This is all normal. After all, most people only know your glamorous appearance. They don't know how much hard work and sweat are behind it, and the painful process of being raped by customers.
At this moment, my team has grown to 6 people, and the company has been registered, but it is mainly used to handle business relationships. Fortunately, some of our professional opinions have begun to influence customers. This is a huge progress.
In 2007, we participated in the entire process of the new design of Hunan TV's Golden Eagle Network. For us, the meaning of web design is not only in visual expression.
Unfortunately, by the beginning of 2008, I was the only one left in the studio. This once again proves that one person cannot save the world. Although it is sad, the studio will continue to persevere.
Another thing worth mentioning in 2007 is the creation of Qianbaobao website, which is my first complete PHP project. It has received good reviews from some friends, and of course there are bugs. bbcash is a project that covers the entire process from product creativity, business process, front-end design, coding implementation, and server deployment. I have gained a lot of training and inspiration. Before this, I have never had the opportunity to design a product in such depth, which really helped me a lot. I think a good designer should master quite a lot of WEB front-end technology, and the front-end technology I understand includes (XHTML/CSS/Javascript/Flash Action, etc.). Don't ask me what Qianbaobao will do next. Letting her exist and persist is the most meaningful thing. Letting her make money, I haven't thought about it yet. Many things are natural.
As a designer, if you can truly control the source code layer of the web page and create the desired user interaction by yourself, the user experience will naturally flow more smoothly. Web design is no longer limited to the design drafts and cut-outs made by Photoshop. The page conceived in the mind, how it is created and how it is presented to the viewer are what designers should be most concerned about.
In a company with loose division of labor, a designer who can master the technology of the entire process is very meaningful to the overall structure, process design, and user perception of the website. Of course, there may be suspicion of being a panacea. However, in underdeveloped areas, this is very necessary.
In the past 10 years, I have learned a lot and given up a lot. When Seven-Colored Bird had 100,000 members, it had already stagnated. The energy and pressure of life did not allow me to do more. The focus on the design field for ten years has also given me a good accumulation. Although studying UNIX technology and script programming has distracted me a lot of energy, it has also given me a lot. Making a choice is a very difficult thing. The bad thing is that you have to make a choice.
In the next ten years, I think I will need more experience and attempts outside of my profession. Who knows what it will be like in another ten years :)
Opportunities and adventures are always around us. Living every day with a healthy attitude and making every choice well may be the eternal theme. In the words of Xu Sanduo: living well is doing meaningful things, and doing meaningful things is living well.
